Not every love story starts with love.

Sometimes, it starts with a classroom, a batchmate you know fairly well, a few years of friendship, and then life taking both of you in completely different directions. And sometimes, after years of no contact, you happen to meet again at a place you never expected—and suddenly, that old acquaintance starts looking a little different.

That is more or less how Dr. Zahwa Rizwan and Dr. Mohtasib Ahmad’s story unfolded.

The two were MBBS batchmates from 2013 to 2018. During those years, they shared the usual college life, conversations and friendship that come with being batchmates, but there was nothing particularly dramatic about their relationship at the time. They were simply two friends who happened to study together.

After MBBS, however, life became busy. Careers took over, cities changed and, gradually, they lost touch. There were no regular calls or conversations anymore. Both moved ahead with their respective lives, probably without giving much thought to where the other person was or what they were doing.

Until November 2023.

The Unexpected Reunion

In November 2023, Zahwa and Mohtasib unexpectedly found themselves working at the same place.

It was one of those coincidences that sounds almost too convenient when you look back at it. Two people who had studied together for years, then lost contact, suddenly ended up in the same workplace again.

There was another coincidence too.

Around the same time, both their families were looking for marriage alliances for them.

That was when the idea of considering each other came up. Not as some grand romantic revelation, but rather as a thought worth exploring.

They already knew each other. They had spent years as batchmates. They had seen each other through an important phase of life. But knowing someone as a friend and deciding that you could actually spend your life with them are two very different things.

So, it took time.

Before getting their families involved, they first had to convince themselves that this was something they genuinely wanted.

And once they did, there was another challenge waiting for them—convincing their parents.

Convincing the Families, One Step at a Time

The wedding journey wasn’t particularly quick or easy.

A Wedding Planned in a Hurry, But With Plenty of Heart

Dr. Zahwa and Dr. Mohtasib got married on 23 March 2026 at Lucknow Garden, IIM Road, Lucknow.

Although the date was crash-fixed and there wasn’t an enormous amount of time to prepare, Zahwa didn’t let the rush stop her from making the wedding personal.

In fact, one of the most distinctive things about their wedding was just how much of it she worked on herself.

Rather than simply picking things off a list and leaving everything to vendors, Zahwa wanted to put her own touch into the celebrations. She customised the details, thought about the little things and, wherever she could, made them herself.

And there were quite a few of them.

From the Nikahnama and thumb card to resin work, wedding platters and wedding favours, several elements were prepared by Zahwa at home.

It wasn’t just about saving money or making something look different. She genuinely enjoyed the process of creating things and wanted the wedding to have pieces that came directly from her.

That personal involvement is what made many of the details feel special.

When the Smallest Details Become the Most Meaningful

At most weddings, there are certain things everyone notices immediately—the décor, outfits, flowers, stage and overall setup.

But often, it is the smaller things that stay with you.

For Zahwa, those smaller details were especially important because she had personally worked on them. Every little customised piece had involved her own time, effort and creativity.

A wedding platter wasn’t just a platter anymore. A favour wasn’t just something guests took home. The resin pieces weren’t just décor. They were things she had actually sat down and created herself.

That was perhaps the biggest personal touch in Zahwa and Mohtasib’s wedding.

The Entries That Set the Mood

Of course, all the DIY details were only one part of the celebrations.

The actual wedding day came with its own set of memorable moments.

Both Zahwa’s and Mohtasib’s entries were among the highlights. There was something mesmerizing about finally seeing the couple enter after months of planning, family conversations and last-minute preparations.

After such a long journey to reach the wedding day, those entries must have felt like one of those moments when everything suddenly becomes real.

But Mohtasib had something special planned for his bride too.

A Surprise From the Groom

Zahwa had spent so much time planning and creating things for the wedding, but the groom had his own way of adding a personal touch to the day.

He had secretly planned a surprise performance for her.

Mohtasib took the stage with a guitarist and sang songs for Zahwa.

It was a simple idea, but probably one of the most personal surprises of the entire celebration. There is a different kind of emotion in seeing your partner stand on stage and sing for you, especially when you aren’t expecting it.

For Zahwa, who had been busy making sure every little wedding detail was taken care of, having a surprise like that come from Mohtasib must have made the day even more special.

It was unexpected, personal and, quite literally, the cherry on top of everything.

And Then Came the Moment That Mattered Most

For all the beautiful décor, customised details, entries and surprises, there was one moment that stood apart from everything else.

The “Qubool Hai” moment.

Undoubtedly, that was the most special part of the wedding for Zahwa and Mohtasib.

And it makes sense when you look at how long it took them to get there.

Their story began back in 2013 as two MBBS batchmates. They spent five years studying together, remained friends, and then went their separate ways after college. For years, they had no contact.

Then, completely unexpectedly, they met again at the same workplace in 2023.

One conversation led to the possibility of considering each other for marriage. That possibility slowly turned into a decision. The decision then had to make its way through both families. There were conversations, convincing and waiting.

And eventually, they were sitting together at their Nikah.

One simple answer later, they were husband and wife.

After everything that had happened before it, the “Qubool Hai” moment wasn’t just another part of the ceremony. It was the moment when the entire journey finally came together.

A Wedding That Felt Like Her

If there is one thing that really stands out about Zahwa and Mohtasib’s wedding, it is how personal it was.

The wedding wasn’t simply about getting every detail “perfect.” It was about making the details meaningful.

Zahwa’s involvement in the planning gave the celebrations a very personal character. She put her own energy and skills into creating parts of the wedding from scratch, even while dealing with the pressure of a date that had been fixed at short notice.

And in this wedding, those details represented Zahwa herself.

It goes back to their MBBS days in 2013.

And perhaps that is what makes their story relatable.

On 23 March 2026, at Lucknow Garden in Lucknow, Dr. Zahwa Rizwan and Dr. Mohtasib Ahmad finally began their married life.

Their wedding had everything that made the day memorable—the beautiful entries, the groom’s surprise musical performance, the customised details and all the little handmade elements Zahwa had created herself.

But beneath all of that was a story that had taken years to reach its ending—and, at the same time, its beginning.

Two MBBS batchmates who once shared a classroom eventually found themselves sharing a wedding stage.
